I
didn’t know much about China before reading this chapter. I learned that their
whole system and government are kind of crazy. The government officials seem to
all be perverts, but I kind of like how the public had some control in their system
through the internet. They were able to tell who the official was and also they
were able to get the woman who was locked up, free. I think their government is
messed up because of the fact that they tried to lock up a woman, who was
obviously using self-defense against rape. I don’t like that the Internet was
so limitless. Anyone could have access to your information and images, etc. I
was kind of appalled at what I gathered from this chapter. The Internet was
carefree, and the government seemed off its hinges. I think government
censorship of pornography on the Internet is okay. I don’t have a problem with
it really. Porn doesn’t affect my life, so why have it to begin with? I don’t
understand people’s fixations with it when you could just read a book or
actually meet another human being. My initial reaction to Dodson’s method of
putting together this chapter was that it was accurate. It recognized the fact
that China needs its mass communication, so that can’t shut it down or censor
it completely.
