Behind the Beautiful Forever pg. 1-50
Something that I have learned from Katherine Boo is to write like an outsider. Write about every little detail, nothing is to important to keep out. On that note, don't overlook the small details. No detail is to small or to important to keep out. All the small things are the things that make us who we are. To look at something as an outsider causes you to pay attention to everything. Also looking at something as an outsider, causes you to approach the subjects with a non-bais mindset. Also when you look at something with a fresh pair of eyes you see things that someone who is used to it will overlook the details. When Boo talks about the fence that divides the airport from the slums she describes it as if were a subject itself. It proves that not just the people influence the culture but also the location. When it comes to writing, I feel like the importance is to be honest. Write what it is, not what you want it to be.
