Delaney's Questions

1. In Mumbai there is a four-month monsoon season, as described by Katherine Boo in her book Behind the Beautiful Forevers. Do these same monsoons affect you in New Delhi, and if so, how?

2. In the book Behind the Beautiful Forevers, written by Katherine Boo, she talks a lot about how the woman of Annawadi are all in an arranged marriage. Does this practice happen in New Delhi as well? Are you or any of your friends already engaged to someone that your parents picked?

3. In Behind the Beautiful Forevers, Katherine Boo tells the story of a man who is seen on the street, who has been injured, asking for help. Many people see this man and choose to ignore him because they do not want to deal with the hospital or police. Eventually, this man dies. Is this a common thing to happen in New Delhi as well, people are left to die because no one wants to help them, or was this a rare occurrence?

4. A woman named Fatima intentionally burns herself in Katherine Boo's Behind the Beautiful Forevers. When she is eventually taken to the hospital they do not take many steps to heal her. For example, the doctor tells her to "Drink three bottles of water a day... and put the filthy bandages back in place" (103). Is this how all hospitals operate, or was this just because Fatima and her husband did not have enough money to get better treatment.
