BtBF pgs 50-75

Manju seems to be like the sane person in Annawadi that is trying to keep it together while she knows the secrets of the rest of the residents.  She tries to make the best of her situation and tries to show Meena how to suppress and control her emotions in a way as to not lash out at her family, like I’m sure Manju wants to lash at Asha.
She reminds me a lot of my mother, a women that I believe to be powerful and have a fighting spirit..
She’s like Manju by the way she hides her anger most of the time and puts all of the other people in her life ahead of herself.  My mother also puts a great emphasis on the importance of getting an education and protecting the well being of others.  My mother would not get between an actual physical altercation, she’s more of the passive talker that calms people down instead of acting physically.  Also like Manju, there is never a reason to only do something correctly or completely when the boss/state is coming to check on your progress.
She seems to be a very studious person that has a caring heart.  Manju also shows a lot of courage by standing up to people when she believes something is wrong, as when she defended Devo against his mother’s wishes.  Manju figured it would be best to allow the child to understand the error while the mother reacted as she naturally would because of the costs of health care.  The other Annawadians believe Manju to be way much nicer than she should be because of her circumstances; her politically powerful mother and her schedule.  Manju also seems to have a fear of being just like all the other people; having an arranged marriage, staying in Annawadi and being subservient to a man.  She has the potential to become a great leader and a model for young women of the slums.
