Chapter 3 and Chapter 4 Response

Chapter 3
In China today, I feel like China’s transferring property and legalizing citizen’s land is the major problem going on in chapter 3. China’s government declared the land outside of their city limits as their own and negotiated deals with companies. The government has authority to transfer tenants elsewhere and hand over land to developers without giving knowledge to the tenants. I feel like this process is an extremely difficult situation to deal with or even talk about because it’s a process that’s illegal and doesn’t seem like it’s going to stop any time soon. Chinese citizens are held into their homes by law and then they have their land taken away in an instance. The Chinese government willing takes their homes/property and they transfer them to unknown people or large corporations or companies. It’s sad that China would do this to people who have worked hard to have the life that they’re living now. It’s not fair that China’s government is doing this to their citizens.
                Chapter 4
For me the most compelling piece of information I found in chapter 4 was how China’s energy consumption compared to the rest of the world. In the book Dodson quotes that in 2007 China had the greatest amount of carbon dioxide in their air. China even uses the most coal power than any other country. I really wasn’t surprised by this; honestly nothing that China does surprises me. I mean I get most of my Intel from the news and China is pretty much all they talk about. Most news sources talk about how China is always power hungry. They keep wanting more and more and more until there’s nothing left and they still want more. It’s scary how much China uses chemicals on a day to day basis. Unfortunately I didn’t think they had this much toxic gases in their air as Dodson states in his book. This whole time I thought the U.S. was in bad shape but after what I see, hear and read about, China has a whole other thing coming and it’s not looking good.
