Chapter 9 Response

For me the most intriguing part about China’s population problems is that China’s main problem is it’s overpopulation, they have billions of people living in their borders and a good portion of them don’t have a place to live. So because of this horrible situation China decided to pass what’s called the one-child policy, this policy allows Chinese citizens to only have one child. However; if this child happens to be a girl they are allowed to try again for a boy and if they succeed the girl child would be given up for adoption or be put in an orphanage. I knew for a long time that China had this policy and still to this day it disgusts me, I understand China is overpopulated but there’s no need to give up a female child just because you want a male child. The main reason most families do this is to make sure their family name gets passed down, my parents had two girls and you don’t see my parents giving us up for adoption because they wanted a son. For me it’s a disturbing realization that there are people out there that are actually ok with giving up a child for selfish purposes. I definitely feel like the Chinese government made a rash decision and enforced a policy that will continue overcrowding China and affect orphaned children as well. I feel that there are other ways to help with the overpopulation of China that doesn’t involve giving up a child in the blink of an eye. I believe that parents who are struggling to maintain a lot of children should be provided with health care, insurance and welfare that help support them and their children. I feel like there’s more that we can do to help the citizens of China to not have to go through something so horrifically heartbreaking and wrong.
